By MT Newswires September 07, 2012, 04:01:08 PM EDT

The Toronto stock market ended the Friday trading session with strong gains amid relief over a bond-buying plan in Europe and bets on U.S. Federal Reserve stimulus following a weak American jobs report.

The TSX posted a triple digit increase, rising 128 points to 12,268, just off day highs of 12,270.

Resource stocks paced gainers as the TSX's materials sector rose 3% and energy was up 2%.

Heavily traded stocks solidly in the green included Torex Gold Resources (TXG.TO), Eastern Platinum (ELR.TO), Perseus Mining (PRU.TO) and Petaquilla Minerals (PTQ.TO).
