TSX Close: Toronto Stocks Finish Week in Positive Territory

The Toronto stock market ended the week on a positive note despite some mixed earnings reports and news of slowing U.S. economic growth.

The S&P TSX Composite Index rallied in afternoon trading, gaining 92 points, or 0.8% to close at 12237.75. Volume was 184 million shares traded.

Most of the TSX sub-sectors were higher, including materials, consumer staples and utilities. Health-care issues were in the red.

Mining stocks advanced paced by Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM.TO) which announced higher first quarter profits.

Gold stocks rose, including heavily traded Kinross Gold (K.TO) and Eldorado (ELD.TO)
