Canadian stocks closed slightly higher Friday, with mixed sectors. Utilities was the biggest gainer, up 1.25%, followed by energy, up 0.5%.

Mining stocks dominated the TSX, with Crocodile Gold (CRK.TO) closing the day 40% higher, though still off yr highs. More than 14 million shares changed hands.

The mining sector was dragged down by American Bonanza (BZA.TO), which shed 55.6%, to hit a record low of 2 cents, after it announced that it was placing its Copperstone Mine in Arizona in care and maintenance to conserve cash. Mining stocks were also brought down by lower gold and silver prices.
