TSX at 2pm: TSX Higher as Gold, Mining Stocks Rise

By MT Newswires January 15, 2013, 02:00:36 PM EDT

The Toronto stock market was higher in afternoon trading as gold and mining stocks staged a recovery, offsetting worries about the debt ceiling in the United States.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 18 points at 12,621, off day highs of 12,635.

The materials sector led advancers, rising nearly 1%, paced by gold and mining issues. Energy and financial shares were little changed while tech stocks lost ground.

Heavily traded Uranium One (UUU.TO) was flat while Bombardier (BBD-B.TO) fell 1% and Research in Motion (RIM.TO) lost 3%.
