By Midnight Trader May 24, 2012, 02:01:01 PM EDT

The Toronto stock market dropped into negative territory in afternoon trading as investors took in more bad news from Europe â€" the continent's leaders ended a one-day summit no closer to solving the debt crisis.

The S&P TSX Composite Index was off 82 points to a 11,482, touching day lows, after hitting a high of 11,627 Thursday morning.

Despite the overall losses, most of the TSX's actively traded stocks were higher, including Manulife Financial (MFC.TO), Avion Gold (AVR.TO) and Osisko Mining (OSK.TO). Bombardier Inc. (BBD-B.TO) was weaker.
