TSX At 10am -- Up 47 Points To Another High, Boosted By Tim Hortons/Burger King Deal

The TSX is up 47 points to another high this morning, of 15647. The exchange climbed to 15653 earlier. The TSX has been boosted by news that Burger King Worldwide Inc. has agreed to acquire Tim Hortons Inc. (THI.TO) for about $12.5 billion, to create the third-largest fast-food company. The new company will be headquartered in Canada.

Energy is the biggest gainer this morning, up 0.72%, boosted by higher gas and crude oil prices . Miners are up 0.57% this morning, the second biggest gainer.

Financials are the sole loser this morning, shedding 0.28%. Despite Scotiabank (BNS.TO) reporting improved earnings and revenues for Q3 ended July 31, benefiting from the sale of a majority of its investment in CI Financial, its shares are down 2% and it is the third most actively traded.
