TSX At 10am -- Up 27 Points, Touches Another High, Telecom The Biggest Gainer

The TSX touched another record high this morning, of 15347 points, buoyed by waning tensions over Ukraine.

Telecom is the biggest gainer this morning, up 1.7%, as BCE (BCE.TO) announces that its plans to privatize Bell Aliant (BA.TO). Bell Aliant is the most actively traded on the TSX and at a near 7-year high of $31.18.

Miners are the next biggest gainer, up 0.55%.


Strong car sales helped push retail trade up by 0.7% in May to $41.98 billion, outshining April's record sales, Statistics Canada reported today.

Sales by motor vehicle and parts dealers, which account for about one quarter of total retail sales, were up 2.5%. Excluding this sector, retail sales rose 0.1%. Excluding auto and gasoline, retail sales were down 0.3%.
