Top 10 list of unusual option activity

About halfway through today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Quest Diagnostics (DGX): Option volume 3,037 percent above average. An investor bought 5,000 July 60 puts for $0.85 and 5,000 July 65 calls for $0.15, looking for volatility to increase. DGX rose 0.74 percent to $61.01.

Hansen Natural (HANS): Option volume 1,062 percent above average. An investor sold 5,000 September 75 calls and buys an equal number of September 80 calls, suggesting a bullish vertical spread was closed. HANS rose 1.08 percent to $73.09.

Buckeye Partners (BPL): Option volume 747 percent above average. Heavy activity was detected in the August 55 puts and the August 65 calls against existing open interest. BPL fell 0.96 percent to $62.90.

PMC Sierra (PMCS): Option volume 564 percent above average. An investor bought 2,000 August 8 calls for $0.15, looking for the stock to rally. PMCS fell 1.23 percent to $7.

Harbin Electric (HRBN): Option volume 492 percent above average. Calls and puts were sold against open interest after the Chinese company agreed to a management buyout. HRBN rise 58 percent to $13.26.

  • Leggett & Platt (LEG): Option volume 411 percent above average.
  • Windstream (WIN): Option volume 403 percent above average.
  • Skyworks Solutions (SWKS): Option volume 390 percent above average.
  • Applied Micro Circuits (AMCC): Option volume 386 percent above average.
  • Sigma Aldrich (SIAL): Option volume 375 percent above average.
