Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Kindred Healthcare (KND): Option volume 2,200 percent above average. A position in 2,000 August 20 puts was rolled to the August 15 puts and doubled in size. KND rose 2.14 percent to $18.85.

Cadence Design Systems (CDNS): Option volume 1,566 percent above average. Investors sold the August 10 and August 11 puts against open interest. CDNS rose 6.27 percent to $10.

Miller Energy Resources (MILL): Option volume 1,033 percent above average. Investors bought about 2,700 August 2.50 puts for $0.20 to $0.50. MILL fell 7.59 percent to $4.99.

Vanguard REIT (VNQ): Option volume 764 percent above average. A block of 1,885 September 65 calls was sold for $0.45. VNQ fell 0.44 percent to $60.76.

PHLX Swiss Franc (XDS): Option volume 744 percent above average. Investors bought and sold December 121 puts in the thinly traded fund. XDS rose 1.85 percent to $127.08.

  • NXP Semiconductor (NXPI): Option volume 728 percent above average.
  • True Religion (TRLG): Option volume 679 percent above average.
  • Dollar General (DG): Option volume 661 percent above average.
  • Cablevision Systems (CVC): Option volume 620 percent above average.
  • Sourcefire (FIRE): Option volume 531 percent above average.
