Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Commercial Metals (CMC): Option volume 1,107 percent above average. Investors bought the September 16 calls and the December 16 calls, looking for upside. CMC was unchanged at $14.70.

Sanmina-SCI (SANM): Option volume 1,033 percent above average. Investors sold more about 2,000 August 11 puts for $0.45 to $0.65, looking for the stock to hold its ground. SANM rallied 20 percent to $11.08.

SPDR KBW Regional Banking ETF (KRE): Option volume 732 percent above average. Investors sold about 7,500 September 26 calls and bought 15,000 September 23 puts, reflecting a bearish outlook. KRE fell 0.20 percent to $25.51.

Applied Microcircuits (AMCC): Option volume 652 percent above average. An investors purchased 1,500 November 10 calls for $0.45 and $0.50. AMCC fell 0.59 percent to $8.37.

RadioShack (RSH): Option volume 641 percent above average. Investors took profits in the August 14 calls after the stock ripped higher. RSH rose 21 percent to $15.90.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are:

  • Omnicare (OCR): Option volume 538 percent above average.
  • Helix Energy Solutions (HLX): Option volume 521 percent above average.
  • HCA Holdings (HCA): Option volume 479 percent above average.
  • Solutia (SOA): Option volume 458 percent above average.
  • NuVasive (NUVA): Option volume 445 percent above average.
