Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Transatlantic Holdings (TRH): Option volume 956 percent above average. Investors sold about 1,800 September 50 calls against existing open interest. TRH rose 0.10 percent to $50.31.

News (NWSA): Option volume 800 percent above average. An investor bought large blocks in the January 20 calls and the January 25 calls. NWSA fell 1.11 percent to $16.01.

Deutsche Bank (DB): Option volume 670 percent above average. An investor purchased 10,000

October 35 puts for $2.70 to $2.75 and sold an equal number of October 25 puts for $0.75, looking for downside. DB fell 1 percent to $39.50.

RR Donnelley (RRD): Option volume 658 percent above average. About 6,000 September 14 puts were sold for about $0.63. RRD rose 0.22 percent to $13.95.

Silicon Graphics International (SGI): Option volume 652 percent above average. More than 1,500 August 13 calls traded against existing open interest in the final session before expiration. SGI popped 31 percent to $15.58.

  • Diana Shipping (DSX): Option volume 591 percent above average.
  • Mini SPX Index (XSP): Option volume 579 percent above average.
  • Synopsys (SNPS): Option volume 559 percent above average.
  • iShares Russell 3000 (IWV): Option volume 551 percent above average.
  • General Cable (BGC): Option volume 549 percent above average.
