Top 10 list of unusual option activity


Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Flamel Technologies (FLML): Option volume 3,025 percent above average. A short position in the August 2.05 calls was rolled to the September 2.50 strike for a credit of $0.07. FLML rose 4.47 percent to $4.44.

Targacept (TRGT): Option volume 759 percent above average. The November 15 puts were sold for $4.10 and the September 15 puts were bought for $1.20. Known as a calendar spread, the investor is hoping that shares will stay above $15. TRGT rose 2.45 percent to $15.45.

Ivanhoe Mines (IVN): Option volume 638 percent above average. More than 9,000 September 22 puts were rolled to the December 20 strike. IVN rose 1.50 percent to $20.98.

Diana Shipping (DSX): Option volume 513 percent above average. More than 1,700 December 8 puts were sold for $0.60. DSX rose 2.69 percent to $8.39.

Blue Coat (BCSI): Option volume 489 percent above average. Investors bought calls and puts after the stock cratered on a poor earnings report. BCSI is down 23 percent to $13.60.

  • ZioPharm Oncology (ZIOP): Option volume 399 percent above average.
  • Chicos FAS (CHS): Option volume 396 percent above average.
  • Sony (SNE): Option volume 395 percent above average.
  • Liberty Media (LINTA): Option volume 381 percent above average.
  • Photronics (PLAB): Option volume 369 percent above average.
