Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Rockwell Collins (COL): Option volume 1,718 percent above average. Investors bought about 2,900 October 60 calls and about 1,900 October 65s. COL rose 5.96 percent to $55.25.

Denison Mines (DNN): Option volume 1,617 percent above average. A short position in the October 2 puts was rolled to the January 2 contracts. DNN fell 1.71 percent to $1.44.

MarkWest Energy Partners (MWE): Option volume 1,060 percent above average. More than 3,000 September 43 puts were sold for $0.01 to $0.03. The September 48 calls were also bought against existing open interest. MWE fell 3.04 percent to $46.59.

Savient Pharmaceuticals (SVNT): Option volume 914 percent above average. The September 4 puts and December 5 calls traded heavily against existing open interest. SVNT fell 1.22 percent to $4.06.

Goodrich (GR): Option volume 804 percent above average. Investors sold the October 90 puts and bought the October 95 calls. GR rose 3.31 percent to $89.34.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are:

  • Diamond Foods (DMND): Option volume 762 percent above average.
  • Oneok (OKE): Option volume 746 percent above average.
  • GMX Resources (GMXR): Option volume 608 percent above average.
  • Tyco International (TYC): Option volume 588 percent above average.
  • Williams Partners (WPZ): Option volume 557 percent above average.
