Top 10 list of unusual option activity

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Cloud Peak (CLD): Option volume 2,077 percent above average. Investors bought about 2,900 November 20 puts and sold a matching number of November 20 calls, looking for downside. CLD fell 0.02 percent to $20.91.

Toll Brothers (TOL): Option volume 920 percent above average. Existing long positions in the November 14 calls and the December 18 calls were sold. TOL rose 5.11 percent to $17.99.

Triangle Petroleum (TPLM): Option volume 827 percent above average. About 1,800 October 5 calls were bought against open interest the same day the contracts expire. TPLM rose 11 percent to $4.96.

Chico's FAS (CHS): Option volume 693 percent above average. Investors bought the November 14 calls for $0.20 to $0.25 amid rumors that Pershing Square wants to break up the company. CHS rose 1.82 percent to $12.30.

Powerwave Technologies (PWAV): Option volume 689 percent above average. The November 2.50 puts traded actively against open interest. PWAV fell 6.52 percent to $0.75.

Rounding out the top 10 are:

  • Nuance Communications (NUAN): Option volume 628 percent above average.
  • Carnival (CCL): Option volume 572 percent above average.
  • Synaptics (SYNA): Option volume 515 percent above average.
  • BJ's Restaurants (BJRI): Option volume 508 percent above average.
  • Teradyne (TER): Option volume 508 percent above average.
