S&W Seed announces the successful insertion of Roundup Ready genes into a non-dormant alfalfa variety.

By Ian Gilson, CFA

S&W Seed ( SANW ) has announced that the Roundup Ready gene has been successfully inserted into one of S&W Seed's highest yielding non-dormant alfalfa seed varieties. The next stage is to plant the seed, which S&W and FGI (Forage Genetics) now doing, to check performance and trait efficacy. If this is successful  S&W will start planting for seed for sale. The probable market is the Southwestern US where S&W currently has a presence (see below). S&W and FGI will also be inserting the gene into other varieties of alfalfa over the next year.

S&W has appointed Dan Gardner as VP of Seed Breeding and Genetics. Previously Mr. Gardner was International Distribution Manager for Dairyland Seed Co., a Dow AgroScience subsidiary where he was responsible for increasing sales of non-dormant alfalfa seeds in Saudi Arabia, South Africa, parts of South America and in France.
