Silicon Labs Maintains History of Reversing Earnings-Driven Pre-Market Moves in Follow-on Regular Session

Silicon Labs ( SLAB ) is due with Q3 results in the pre-market on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Street expects the company to report a profit of $0.43 per share on revenue of $146.5 million, according to a Capital IQ survey of analysts.

The stock is favoring the reversal trend, cutting back its extended-hours performance in follow-on regular session trade in 20 of the last 38 quarters.

This stock remains a volatile post-earnings mover. Looking deeper into the data, the stock has posted gains in response to earnings for 20 quarters, extending that gain nine times, or 45% of the time. The stock has declined 17 times, extending that move in eight instances.


On July 25, 2013, SLAB failed to record a pre-market trade after posting mixed Q2 results and setting Q3 guidance below the Street view. The stock closed that day's regular session off 0.2%.

On April 24, 2013, SLAB dropped 4.8% in pre-market action despite topping Q1 estimates. The stock was hit for deeper losses in the regular session, closing down 6%.

On Jan. 30, 2013, SLAB firmed 2.2% in pre-market trade after topping Q4 expectations. The stock moved higher in the regular session, closing up 3.4%.

SLAB soared 21.3% in the after-hours on Jan. 24, 2005 after the company beat Q4 expectations and set its Q1 sales view ahead of the Street mean. The stock cut a good chunk of its evening gains in next-day trade, holding a 14.5% rise by the bell-to-bell close on Jan. 25.

SLAB slid 20.7% the night of Oct. 25, 2004 after the company missed on revenue and guided its sales below the Street view. It cut its downside modestly the next day, ending the Oct. 26 regular session off 19%.

On the night of July 26, 2004 SLAB plummeted 22% in night trade after setting its outlook below expectations. The stock narrowed its declines by the close of the July 27 regular session, declining 11.8%.

Back on April 26, 2004 the stock dipped 4.5% in after-hours trade following better-than-expected results and strong guidance. It ended the next day down 4.9%.
