Sidewinder Update: Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO), Alpha Natural Resources (NYSE: ANR)

Options volume in Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO ) received a boost during morning trading thanks to an investor who sold the calls on a moderately bearish bet. The March 22 calls crossed more than 7,800 times by 10:50 a.m. EST, as investors sold these options for $1.90 per contract (a penny off the bid price). Investors wil make money if CSCO shares, currently trading down 30 cents to $23.63, close lower than $23.90 at March options expiration in 35 days. CSCO did not announce any news this morning to spark the decline in the stock.

Around 10:31 a.m. EST, a couple large blocks of Alpha Natural Resource Inc. (NYSE: ANR ) March 22 calls totaling 5,000 contracts crossed the tape at a premium of 60 cents per contract . Following positive notes on ANR yesterday, the stock is currently down $1.63, or nearly 4%, to $42.77 a share. The company did not announce any news today, but a Credit Suisse note released this morning said ANR has the lease favorable risk/reward profile, which could have catalyzed the drop in the stock.
