Sector Update: Healthcare

Healthcare stocks are lower, with the NYSE Healthcare Sector Index down less than 0.1% but with shares of healthcare companies in the S&P 500 falling nearly 0.9% as a group.

In company news, Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc. ( ORMP ) is down 1.7% at $6.35 a share after the maker of oral drug-delivery systems says it has received additional patents in Japan and Canada for its Protein Oral Delivery platform.

The company's POD technology is designed to boost protein delivery and absorption through the digestive system and into the bloodstream.

ORMP shares reversed early declines and briefly touched a session high of $6.50 each - up four cents - shortly after reporting receipt of the new patents before retreating to negative ground again.

In other sector news,

(+) OMER, (+15.3%) Identifies six new lass A orphan G protein-coupled receptors linked to neurologic disorders, cardiovascular disease and cancer, paving the way for developing drugs that target those receptors.

(-) ZLCS, (-10.4%) Completes 1-for-6 reverse stock split at 12:01 a.m. this morning as part of efforts to lift share price well above $1 minimum needed for continued Nasdaq listing.
