Healthcare shares are flat in pre-market trade.

Specialty biopharmaceutical company Shire PLC ( SHPG ) said Friday that it has extended the expiration of its previously announced tender offer by its subsidiary for ViroPharma ( VPHM ) until midnight, Eastern Time, on Thursday, January 9, 2014. The tender offer had previously been scheduled to expire at 6:00 p.m. ET, on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

As of 6:00 p.m. on December 26, 2013, approximately 76% of ViroPharma common shares had been validly tendered.

And, Stemcells ( STM ) has filed to sell $100 million worth of stock, warrants and debt securities and will use the money for general corporate purposes, including acquisitions.

STEM was up 5.3% at $1.39 in pre-market trade, with a 52-week range of $1.16 to $2.16.
