Sector Update: Healthcare

Healthcare shares are mixed in pre-market trade. Sinovac Biotech ( SVA ) share are soaring 10% at $4.70 after it reported Q2 2013 net income of $1.3 million, or $0.02 per share, compared to a net loss of $1.6 million, or $0.03 per share, in the same period last year. Sales increased by 86.4% to $17.5 million from $9.4 million.

No analyst estimates were available for comparison. SVA is trading within a 52-week range of $2.13 - $5.09.

And, Savient Pharmaceuticals ( SVNT ) is down 1.4% at $0.70 as it says Q2 net loss was $0.35 per share on sales of $6.7 million. The Thomson Reuters mean was for a $0.31 per share loss on sales of $5.84 million.

Finally, Syneron Medical ( ELOS ) said Q2 earnings fell to $0.02 per share from $0.05 the year earlier, missing the $0.09 average analyst estimate. Total revenues rose 1% to $68.8 million, shy of the $70.9 million consensus estimate. ELOS closed up 2.21% yesterday at $9.25.
