Sector Update: Healthcare Shares Mixed Pre-Market; Ariad Plunges After Nixing Iclusig Trial

Healthcare shares are mixed in pre-market trade. ARIAD ( ARIA ) shares are down about 30% coming off a trading halt early this morning after it announced that it is discontinuing the Phase 3 EPIC trial of Iclusig in patients with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia. ARIA is trading at about $3.19, well below its previous 52-week low of $3.98.

And, Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings ( LH ) reports $1.46 billion in revenue and non-GAAP earnings of $1.80. The Street view was $1.5 billion in revenue and earnings of $1.80 per share.

Finally, Stryker ( SYK ) reported Q2 EPS of $0.98, missing the Capital IQ consensus estimate of $1. Revenues of $2.15 billion were in line with the consensus estimate. Shares are steady pre-market.
