Healthcare stocks are higher today with the NYSE Healthcare
Sector Index climbing about 0.2% while shares of healthcare
companies in the S&P 500 are up 0.3% as a group.
In company news, Warner Chilcott plc (
) is up 2.7% at $21.55 a share, just off its best levels of the
session after the generic drugmaker's acquisition by Actavis (
) picked up support from three proxy advisory firms.
According to the companies, the advisory firms - Institutional
Shareholder Services, Glass Lewis and Egan-Jones - are recommending
ACT shareholders voter in favor of the $8.5-billion transaction,
first announced May 19.
The shareholder vote is scheduled for Sept. 10 in Parsippany,
N.J. ACT shares are up 2.5% to $135.42 apiece.
In other sector news,
