Financial shares are higher in today's pre-market session ahead of the builder's data index and data on consumer prices.

In financial stocks news, MetLife ( MET ) is in talks to buy a majority interest in AMMB Holdings life insurance units for about $246 million, Bloomberg reports. MET is flat at $51.31 in pre-market trade.

And, Insurance holding company Amerisafe, Inc. ( AMSF ) has been upgraded by analysts at FBR Capital to Outperform from Market Perform.

The firm also raised its price target on the stock to $50 from $38 a share. In the pre-market session, shares of AMSF are unchanged at $40.29, within a 52-week range of $25.50 - $44.50.
