Sector Update: Financials Higher As Yellen Scheduled to Talk on Monetary Policy

Financial shares were generally higher in pre-market trade Wednesday ahead of testimony from Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen on monetary policy.

In financial stocks news, Voya Financial ( VOYA ) reported net income improved over a net loss the same quarter last year.

Voya Financial reported net income of $258 million, or $0.98 per diluted share, compared with a loss of $212 million, or $0.92 per share in Q1. Operating earnings per diluted share were $0.57 per share, versus $0.73 per share a year prior.

And, Taylor Morrison ( TMHC ) reported Q1 earnings and sales that topped analysts' expectations while keeping its current guidance for FY14.

TMHC closed lower 4.3% in the lower half of the 52-week range between $17.93 and $27.67.
