Sector Update: Financial Shares Higher Pre-Market Ahead of Key Manufacturing Data

Financial shares were flat to higher in pre-market trade Tuesday ahead of data on auto sales and a key manufacturing index.

In financial stocks news, MetLife ( MET ) was up 2.3% at $54.01 in pre-market trade after the stock was added to Bank of America Merrill Lynch's U.S. 1 List.

And, investment and financial services provider SWS Group ( SWS ) is higher in pre-market trading after it said Tuesday that it has signed a definitive merger agreement with financial holding company Hilltop Holdings Inc. ( HTH ) providing for the merger of SWS with and into HTH.

SWS shares are up 9.75% at $8.21, near the 52-week high of $8.29.

Finally, Kingsway Financial Services ( KFS ) reported a net loss of $10.7 million, or a loss of $0.75 per diluted share, for Q4.

The book value has decreased to $2.25 per share at December 31, 2013 from $4.97 per share at December 31, 2012.
