Sector Update: Financial Financials

Financial shares were higher in pre-market trade Tuesday ahead of a report on consumer prices and a two-day Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

In financial stocks news, SunTrust Banks ( STI ), an Atlanta-based lender, said it plans to expand its auto-dealer program beyond the U.S. Southeast, Bloomberg reports.

The bank plans to expand to Chicago, Boston and Dallas as lending to auto dealers has risen about 25% from a year prior. STI trades in a 52-week range of $4.09 to $6.11.

And, Aspen Insurance ( AHL ) board of directors, after evaluating Endurance Specialty Holdings' ( ENH ) offer to buy the company, determined that the offer is not in the best interest of the company or its shareholders and recommends shareholders to reject the proposal.

AHL shares were flat in pre-market trading on Tuesday and closed at $46.80 on Monday. ENH was also inactive in pre-market trading. It was last at $51.32 on Monday.
