Energy shares are broadly lower even as crude oil futures finish
the day with gains, topping $98 a barrel. Light, sweet crude oil
for September delivery finished up 0.7% to $98.14 a barrel. In
energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund (
) is down 0.39% to $38.10. The United States Natural Gas ETF (
) is up 0.26% at $11.39. In late-session energy news, Murphy Oil (
) is up after DealReporter says the company may be in merger talks
with Husky Energy. Meanwhile, shares of Exxon Mobil (
) are down 0.2% to $83.46 as Reuters reported that the
petrochemicals giant is seeking partners for half of its interest
in a coal bed methane project in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
