Sector Update: Energy Stocks Higher Pre-Bell as Crude Futures Inch Up

Energy shares are higher in pre-market, while crude oil futures are also lower.

Light crude oil for November delivery is trading up $0.04 at $96.90 barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is down $0.01 at $2.91 a gallon while natural gas is down $0.03 at $3.59 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is down 0.4% at $34.82. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 0.5% at $18.41.

In other energy news, Whiting Petroleum Corp. ( WLL ) is up 1.3% at $64.08 after-hours as the company reports Q3 EPS of $1.28, better than Capital IQ consensus estimates of $1.08, higher than prior year Q3 EPS of $0.77.

Revenues of $831.0 million handily topped CIQ consensus estimates of $695.6 million, and were higher than revenues of $530.5 million reported in Q3 2012.
