Sector Update: Energy Shares Steady Pre-Market; Natural Gas Soars 6%

Energy shares were mixed in pre-market trade Tuesday while crude oil futures were trading higher.

Light, sweet crude oil for March delivery was up 0.86% at $101.16 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.71% at $3.10 per gallon while natural gas was up 6.1% at $5.53 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was flat at $35.91. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was up 4.6% at $26.14.

In other energy news, Duke Energy ( DUK ) reported Q4 earnings that topped Street view.

Duke reported Q4 2013 adjusted diluted EPS of $1.00, compared with $0.70 for Q4 2012 and 6% above the Street view, according to Capital IQ estimates.

Duke now expects 2014 earnings of $4.45 per share to $4.60 per share, a range in line with the Street view of $4.56.
