Sector Update: Energy Shares Rise Off Session Lows; Crude Slumps

Energy shares have come off session lows while crude oil futures continued to slump below $77 a barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Light, sweet crude for November delivery is trading down 0.32% to $77.36 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is down 0.22% to $2.74 a gallon while natural gas is up 0.41% to $3.63 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.34% to $29.84. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is up 0.45% to $8.91.

In mid-day energy news, shares of NRG Energy ( NRG ) are firmly lower after the company said late Monday it is now expecting full-year earnings of $1.78 billion to $1.85 billion, down from forecasts for $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion.

NRG Energy shares are down 4.4%, or $0.88, to $19.05.
