Sector Update: Energy Shares Rise as Crude Oil Futures Advance 0.3%

Energy shares are higher as crude oil futures trade near $112 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Light, sweet crude oil for May delivery is trading up 2.9% to $111.45 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is down 0.87% to $3.19 a gallon while natural gas is up 2.09% to at $4.40 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.41% to $44.40. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is up 2% to $11.45.

In mid-day news, British oil major BP PLC ( BP ) said it is suing Halliburton Co. ( HAL ), Transocean Ltd. ( RIG ) and Cameron International Corp. (CAM) over their roles in the Deepwater Horizon explosion and subsequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year, the Wall Street Journal reports.

BP shares are up 0.4%. Halliburton is up 0.18%.
