Sector Update: Energy Shares Mixed Pre-Market; Crude Oil Futures Lift

Energy shares traded mixed in pre-market trade Tuesday as crude oil futures were slightly higher.

Light, sweet crude oil for June delivery was up 0.17% at $102.78 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.05% at $2.94 per gallon while natural gas was down 0.13% at $4.46 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was flat at $37.38. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was up 0.2% at $24.80.

In other energy news, BP ( BP ) shares were down more than 1% in pre-market trade Tuesday after the oil company could not limit the amount of compensation it must pay for the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Bloomberg reports.

BP trades in a 52-week range of $40.51 to $51.45.
