Sector Update: Energy Shares Lower in Pre-Market Trade, Crude Gains

Energy shares are lower in pre-market, while crude oil futures are higher.

Light, sweet crude oil for October delivery is trading up $0.48 at $107.71 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is up fractionally at $3.14 a gallon while natural gas is flat at $3.68 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is flat at $38.34. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is up 0.05% at $19.31.

In other energy news, Upstream Online reports that Nigerian militants last night threatened to attack Chevron's ( CVX ) Tank Farm at Escravos in Delta State, urging workers to evacuate the facility which also serves as the operational headquarters in the Niger Delta for the US major.

Mortar attacks on the plant by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend) will take place in the early morning of 1 October, the report said.
