Sector Update: Energy Shares Higher as Crude Edges Toward $90 a Barrel

Energy shares are higher in mid-day trading, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising around 0.9% and the S&P Energy Index holding on to a near 0.5% advance.

Light, sweet crude for September delivery is up $0.59 to $89.98 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is up $0.01 to $2.88 a gallon while natural gas is down $0.07 to $3.02 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is up 0.7% to $33.60. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is down 2.2% at $20.70.

In stocks news, ATP Oil & Gas Corp. ( ATPG ) is down near 30% at $1.40 after making a new 52-week low of $1.35 on rumors that its bondholders are preparing for a potential restructuring, organizing a group to represent their interests, writes Bloomberg Businessweek.
