Sector Update: Energy Shares Flat; Crude Futures Sink Toward $104 Per Barrel

Energy shares are flat in pre-market, while crude oil futures are down toward $104 per barrel.

Light, sweet crude oil for September delivery is down $0.53 per share at $104.58 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is down $0.01 at $3.07 a gallon while natural gas is up $0.03 at $3.47 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs , the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is down 0.32% at $37.40. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is flat at $18.23.

In other energy news, Ecopetrol ( EC ) reported late Tuesday that it has proven the presence of hydrocarbons in the Guainiz-1 exploratory well located in the Municipality of San Carlos de Guaroa, Meta Province, Colombia.

The company said that initial tests yielded a daily average production of 409 barrels per day of 14.4B0 API crude and a water cut of 8.4%, through an artificial lift system of progressive cavity pump.

This is the third discovery made by the company in the CPO-10 block, after the Pastinaca and Cusuco discoveries, which EC reported in March and May 2013 respectively. Shares are flat at $45.51 pre-market.
