Sector Update: Consumer

Consumer shares are fairly flat in pre-bell trading.

Among them, shares of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. ( WMT ) rose slightly in Friday's premarket session after the giant discount retailer said it had record-breaking Black Friday results, without giving sales numbers.

Shares were up 0.6% at $81.45, setting the stock up to reach a new all-time high in the regular session. Its record high coming into Friday's regular session, which was reached Wednesday, is $81.

Meanwhile, Sotheby's ( BID ) is preparing to hold its first auction in China with $212 million worth of merchandise, from art to furniture, Bloomberg reports. BID is flat at $51.69 pre-market.
