Consumer shares were mixed in pre-market trading Thursday.

Dollar General ( DG ) was down about 3% in recent pre-market trading, in a 52-week range of $47.46 to $62.93. The discount retailer posted Q4 net income of $322 million, or diluted earnings per share of $1.01, compared with net income of $317 million, or diluted EPS of $0.97, in Q4 2012. The Street expected earnings of $1.02 per share for the latest quarter, according to Capital IQ estimates.

Home-decor retailer Kirkland's ( KIRK ) reported earnings for the three months ending Feb. 1 of $0.69 per share, compared with the prior-year period's $0.82 per share. Revenue was $156.1 million, down 4.2% from $162.9 million in the same quarter last year.

KIRK said comparable-store sales for the quarter including e-commerce sales, were flat compared with a decrease of 2.6% in the prior-year quarter. Shares were inactive pre-market.
