Sector Update: Consumer Shares Higher Pre-Market; New York Times Q1 Results Top Estimates

Top Consumer Shares:

Consumer shares were generally higher in pre-market trade Thursday.

In consumer sector news, New York Times ( NYT ) reported earnings of $0.07 per share, above the Street view of $0.03 per share. Revenue was $390.4 million, also topping the consensus. Shares were steady pre-market.

And Royal Carribbean Cruises ( RCL ) reported Q1 earnings of $0.21 per share and revenue of $1.88 billion, both of which missed the Street view. Although, RCL was trading up 0.7% at $53.00 in pre-market trade.

Finally, Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) reported earnings of $0.18 per share, which were just past the analyst consensus, and revenue of $4.2 billion, which was in line with expectations.
