Samsung Electronics: German Court Rules Against It In Patent Dispute With Apple

SEOUL -(Dow Jones)- Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE) said Friday that a German court has ruled that Apple Inc. (AAPL) hasn't violated one of the Korean company's technical patents as part of a broader patent dispute.

"We are disappointed that the court did not share our views regarding the infringement by Apple of this specific patent in Germany. We will wait for the written grounds of today's judgment, and after thorough review make a decision about a possible appeal to the Higher Regional Court Karlsruhe," a Samsung spokeswoman said in an e-mailed statement.

The ruling comes after the South Korean electronics giant filed claims with the Mannheim Regional Court in Germany in April last year, alleging Apple infringed some of its telecommunications standard technology patents. Last week, the German court ruled against Samsung in another of the technical patents in dispute.

"Today's ruling relates to only one of several patents asserted by Samsung in the Mannheim court...A ruling on an additional Samsung patent relating to telecommunications standards is due to be handed down by the Mannheim court in the next several weeks," the spokeswoman added.
