PVH Sets Bullish History for Longs Trading off After-Hours Earnings

PVH Corp. ( PVH ), formerly known as Phillips-Van Heusen, is set to report its Q2 results after the bell tonight, and analysts polled by Capital IQ are anticipating a profit of $1.38 per share on revenue of $1.89 billion.

Long-term, PVH has widened its share moves between the sessions in 15 of 28 quarters.

Looking deeper into PVH's performance data, the stock favors the long side regardless of its after-hours direction. PVH has seen an earnings-driven after-hours gain in 17 of the 28 quarters tracked in our database. In 10 of those quarters, or 59% of the time, the stock has added to its upside in the following day's regular session. On the downside, PVH has recorded an earnings-driven after-hours decline in 11 of the quarters we've tracked. In six of those events, or 55% of the time, the stock reversed direction or narrowed its downside the following day - making it still a stock for longs to watch even on a negative after-hours move.

On August 23, 2006, PVH gained 2% in after-hours trade when the company beat Q2 expectations and issued above-Street guidance. However, the shares could not hold onto those gains and slipped 0.3% by the end of the next day's regular session.
