Specialty polymer materials maker PolyOne Corporation ( POL ) said that its ECCOH low smoke and fume, non-halogen ("LSFOH") flame-retardant materials have helped boost the performance of specialty cables made by the LEONI Group.

PolyOne's ECCOH high performance solutions have helped LEONI to improve durability, resistance and function of communication cables for oil and gas rigs. Moreover, technical supports from the company allowed LEONI to speed up time-to-market for the specialty cables.

ECCOH, which is available globally, has been designed for flame-retardant applications. These flame-retardant materials are well-suited for environments where smoke mitigation is of particular concern. ECCOH enabled LEONI to make tougher, more chemically resistant cables for extreme conditions and meet high quality standards.

PolyOne is a leading provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions with annual sales of $3.8 billion. The company, in Jun 2014, was selected by medical polymer solutions provider Biomerics as the exclusive distributor for the latter's Quadrathane, Quadraflex and Quadraplast medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethanes in North America.

Strong momentum in PolyOne's Specialty platform coupled with synergies from the Spartech acquisition led to healthy double-digit rise in revenues and earnings in first-quarter 2014. The company remains optimistic to achieve its adjusted earnings target of $2.50 per share by 2015 and double-digit earnings per share growth over the next several years.

PolyOne has a strong innovation pipeline with unique, differentiated solutions for high-growth markets such as health care, transportation, consumer and packaging that are expected to drive growth in the years to come.

PolyOne is a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) stock.

Other companies in the specialty chemicals space worth considering include KMG Chemicals Inc. ( KMG ), Kuraray Co. Ltd. ( KURRY ) and A. Schulman, Inc. ( SHLM ). While KMG Chemicals holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), both Kuraray and A. Schulman retain a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
