Pike Electric ( PIKE ) announced Tuesday that it has selected as a subcontractor to Fluor ( FLR ) for the proposed Plains & Eastern Clean Line LLC project, an 800-mile high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line from Oklahoma to Tennessee.

Once the project receives all permits and regulatory and financial approvals, PIKE will join FLR in providing development support, preliminary engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.

The Plains & Eastern Clean Line, which consists of 800 miles of overhead HVDC transmission lines delivering 3,500 megawatts of power from Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas to the southeastern United States, is expected to take several years to fully permit and could begin commercial operation as early as 2017.

Shares are up 0.43% to $7.01, taking it further away from the 52-week low of $6.18.
