OPTIONS: Potential U.S. Legislation Driving Options Activity in Solar Companies - Japan Construction Move Tipping Coal Producers

After several U.S. Senators said that they had reintroduced legislation today that would help renewable fuel companies form master limited partnerships, options in solar energy firms are seeing enhanced volatility.

Separately, a move by Japan to ease a construction ban on coal-fired plants is indicating flat to elevated implied volatility in coal producers.

SunPower ( SPWR ) May call option implied volatility is at 90, June is at 84, September is at 71; above its 26-week average of 70.

First Solar ( FSLR ) May call option implied volatility is at 75, June is at 61; above its 26-week average of 53.

Continental Resources ( CLR ) May call option implied volatility is at 34, June and September is at 31; compared to its 26-week average of 33.

JinkoSolar ( JKS ) May call option implied volatility is at 66, June is at 74, September is at 65; cpmared to its 26-week average of 72.

Canadian Solar ( CSIQ ) overall option implied volatility of 68 is near its 26-week average of 70.

Advanced Energy (AEIS) overall option implied volatility of 39 is above its 26-week average of 37.

MEMC Electronic (WFR) overall option implied volatility of 65 is near its 26-week average of 67.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) overall option implied volatility of 76 is near its 26-week average of 74.

Suntech (STP) overall option implied volatility of 112 is near its 26-week average of 114.

Trina Solar (TSL) overall option implied volatility of 80 is above its 26-week average of 77.

JA Solar (JASO) overall option implied volatility of 72 is below its 26-week average of 75.

LDK Solar (LDK) overall option implied volatility of 89 is near its 26-week average of 87 according to Track Data.

Coal producer's option implied volatility is flat to elevated as shares rally on Japan moving to ease a construction ban on coal-fired plants, Nikkei says.

The Market Vectors Coat ETF (KOL) overall option implied volatility of 27 is near its 26-week average of 28.

Alpha Natural Resources (ANR) overall option implied volatility of 65 is above its 26-week average of 63.

Consol Energy (CNX) overall option implied volatility of 37 is near its 26-week average of 38.

Arch Coal (ACI) overall option implied volatility of 68 is above its 26-week average of 65.

Peabody (BTU) overall option implied volatility of 43 is near its 26-week average of 44.

Walter Energy (WLT) overall option implied volatility of 79 is above its 26-week average of 56 according to Track Data.
