Morning Call: Markets Watching Regulators

●      Asian stock indexes slipped after last week's gains, as investors worried that China would not opt for more monetary easing after home prices rose in several major regions.

●      The Nikkei strengthened 0.09 percent; Shanghai Composite dropped 0.38 percent; Hang Seng inched downward 0.06 percent; S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.13 percent; KOSPI eased 0.01 percent.


●      European stock indexes increased as investors await meetings this week among policymakers regarding the euro debt crisis. Check for movements in the Vanguard MSCI Europe ETF (NYSEArca:VGK).

●      Spanish and Italian yields fell after investors expected European policymakers to contain the debt crisis. Spanish 10-year bond yields fell 24 basis points to 6.21 percent.


●      U.S. stock futures indicated a flat opening as investors await meetings with the ECB this week and minutes from the Fed's latest policy meeting.

Gold Slipped and Silver Rose

●      Gold declined 0.06 percent, or $0.95, to $1615.10. Expect slight easing in the SPDR Gold Shares physical bullion ETF (NYSEArca:GLD).

●      Silver increased 0.15 percent, or $0.04, to $28.13. Look for advances in the iShares Silver Trust (NYSEArca:SLV).

WTI and Brent Oil Advance

●      The September contract for WTI crude oil strengthened 0.06 percent, or $0.06, to $96.07 per barrel.

●      The October contract for Brent crude oil improved 0.78 percent, or $0.89, to $114.60 per barrel.

●      Expect growth in both the United States Oil Fund (NYSEArca:USO) and in the United States Brent Oil Fund (NYSEArca:BNO).
