Today's economic calendar remains quiet, with only a couple of minor reports scheduled.

European industrial production will be released early in the session but is unlikely to have a significant impact on market sentiment.

Weekly mortgage applications at 7 a.m. ET may provide some clues on the state of residential real estate but usually don't affect trading significantly.

The Energy Department follows with changes in crude-oil inventories at 10:30 a.m.

Companies reporting earnings include Express before the opening bell and Geron and Orexigen Therapeutics in the afternoon.

Tomorrow's agenda is busier, with Chinese industrial production and retail sales early. The U.S. government will release initial jobless claims and February retail sales.
