Metlife’s Q2 Earnings Rise; Profit Beats, but Revenue Misses (MET)

Insurance provider Metlife Inc. ( MET ) late Wednesday posted mixed second quarter earnings results.

The New York-based company reported second quarter net income of $2.26 billion, or $2.12 per share, compared with $1.07 billion, or $1 per share, in the year-ago period. On an operating basis, earnings were $1.33 per share.

Revenue rose less than 1% from last year to $16.79 billion.

On average, Wall Street analysts expected a smaller profit of $1.25 per share, albeit on higher revenue of $16.98 billion.

Metlife shares were mostly flat in aftermarket trading Wednesday.

Shares of Metlife ( MET ) have a 1.43% dividend yield, based on today's closing stock price of $48.79. The stock has technical support in the $27-$28 price area. If the shares can firm up, we see overhead resistance around the $33-$34 price levels.
