McDonald’s April Same-Store Sales Fall Short of Expectations (MCD)

Fast food king McDonald's Corporation ( MCD ) on Tuesday announced April comparable sales that trailed Wall Street's predictions, sending its shares falling in premarket trading.

The Oak Brook, IL-based company said that global same-store sales rose 3.3% in April, while analysts were looking for 4%. Same-store sales are considered a key indicator of a retailer's performance, since they only measure results from stores open at least one year.

In the U.S., same-store sales rose 3.3%, in Europe, they gained 3.5%, and in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa, comps rose just 1.1%. MCD said that stronger growth in China was offset weaker results in Japan.

McDonald's shares fell $2.38, or -2.5%, in premarket trading Tuesday.
