Market Wrap-Up for Sept.20 (AXP, JOYG, BLK, MET, more)

We are continuing to see the markets have a much stronger month of September than many would have expected.

We have been seeing some names that we have been tracking getting into our "buy" zone, and we added 8 new names to our industry-leading Best Dividend Stocks list this morning. Be sure to check out those changes if you didn't see our email alert to members early this morning.

There are some names on our list that we believe are better suited for "aggressive" investors, as they may be a bit more volatile than some of our other holdings. We are also re-evaluating some of our recommended stocks and are shifting some names to "aggressive" as well if their dividend yields get toward the lower end of what we see as attractive. If they go up too much, we will not hesitate to remove the names until we see them as attractive again for new capital. Remember, when we downgrade a stock from our Best Dividend Stocks , we are not saying to sell but rather to avoid putting any further capital in the name (hold). The only time we would consider selling would be an event that could jeopardize a company's ability to pay a dividend (BP plc was the most recent example back in March), or if a stock drops 25% from your average cost price - whereas we would examine the stock's situation deeper and see if there is any company-specific news that would cause the stock to turn into an underperforming portfolio holding.

As for some of the names that attracted some of today's busy buying dollars, they included Metlife ( MET ) , Blackrock ( BLK ) , Joy Global ( JOYG ) , and American Express ( AXP ) . The market continues to have a strong September. Headlines out today indicating the recession may have ended in 2009 also boosted today's investor confidence as well.

I would recommend using a steady discipline as you anticipate putting money to work for your retirement. Timing the market gets to be an addictive exercise that you may get right once or twice, but in the end will distract you from your main efforts to build income-generating portfolios and your mission of becoming rich as the years continue.
