Longs Eke Out Advantage Trading Citrix Systems off Evening Earnings

Citrix Systems ( CTXS ) is due with its Q2 results in the extended-hours today, and analysts polled by Capital IQ expect the company to report a profit of $0.61 per share on revenue of $772.8 million.

CTXS favors reversing direction in its performance between the sessions, adding to its earnings-driven after-hours trade in next-day action in 17 events and reversing direction in 20 events over the last 38 quarters. It maintained the same gain in the following regular session in a recent quarter - a 39th quarter.

Looking deeper into the performance data, CTXS has recorded an earnings-driven after-hours gain in 21 of the 39 quarters tracked, 11 times adding to its evening upside in the following day's regular session, or 52% of the time. On the downside, CTXS has recorded an earnings-driven after-hours decline in 17 of the 39 quarters tracked, reversing direction in nine of those quarters, or 53% of the time.


On April 23, 2014, CTXS advanced 5.5% in after-hours trade after posting better-than-expected results and guidance. It jumped higher the next day, closing the April 24 regular session up 7.1%.

On Jan. 29, 2014, CTXS dropped 4.6% in night trade after beating on Q4 earnings but coming in shy of revenue estimates. The stock was hit for more losses the next day, closing the Jan. 30 regular session off 7.4%.

On Oct. 23, 2013, CTXS advanced 4.8% in after-hours trade after topping Q3 expectations and setting its Q4 view below the Street. The stock held the same gain of 4.8% in the Oct. 24 regular session close.
