Latin American Stocks Mostly Lower Today As Mining Stocks Fail to Lift Broader Markets

Latin American markets are mostly lower with declines for energy and financial companies overwhelming moderate gains for gold, silver and other metal miners. Investors await clues as to when central banks might move to stimulate their respective economies and with that the global economy as a whole.

Here's where the regional markets stand this afternoon:

- Ibovespa down 149.31 (-0.25%) to 58,933.06.

- IPC (Mexico City) down 43.41 (-0.1%) to 40,504.08.

- Santiago Index IPSA up 18.39 (+0.4%) to 4,280.37.

- Merval Buenos Aires down 23.47 (-0.95%) to 2,459.95

In company news, Sanford C. Bernstein today downgraded shares of Telefonica SA ( TEF ) from Market Perform rating to an Underperform. TEF shares are down about 0.4% today.
